News management (part 3234)

Compare and contrast.

One minute the Government is banging on about how it believes in "detailed line by line scrutiny in parliament" (to avoid a referendum).

Then when it comes to a debate what happens? Brown makes sure he is out of the country and the Government makes sure the debate happens late in the day so the evening bulletins can't cover it. We can't help thinking that the Northern Rock announcement is an example of using bad news to bury bad news...

Would you buy a used Treaty from this man?

PS - Also on the Northern Rock front - apparently the beleaguered bank has come out in support of the Lisbon Treaty (well - they need the EU to let them off state aid rules).

We're not sure they are really in a position to start telling us how to run the country - but hell, with enemies like these...

So all Second Reading debates should take place on a Wednesday or Thursday, so that "inportant votes" take place in time for news bulletins?!!
